Philp and Helen's dream of their own restaurant started as we said when they met at The Horn of Plenty, Tavistock, Devon in 1997 where they were both working as chefs with Master Chef Peter Gorton. During that time the food was awarded 3 AA rosettes and a Michelin Star. Previously Philip had worked with Master Chef Karl Loderer at Manley's in Sussex. Whilst there the restaurant gained 4 AA rosettes and a Michelin Star. Helen started her chefs career at The Walnut Tree with Franco Taruschio. She was also fortunate to work with Joyce Molyneux at The Carved Angel in Dartmouth and with Jean Christophe Novelli in London. Philip went as head chef to Combe House, Gittisham, Honiton in 1999 and was nominated to be a Master Chef of GB in 2000. In 2004 while at Combe House it was voted the best country house hotel by the Sunday Times travel magazine. His food is contemporary, uniquely individual and he strives to source local, seasonal ingredients. His dishes have clear flavours, visual style and taste. At Combe House he achieved Best Restaurant and most distinctive local menu in Devon Life Magazine 2005. In 2006, Combe House was voted Best Restaurant in the West Country by Taste of the West Food Awards. Helen spent 1 year as house manager at Combe House and they then decided to return to Wales. In 2007 after many months of searching for their ideal location they bought and renovated Sketty Fabrics in Eversley Road. Slice is unsuitable for customers who are unable to climb stairs, as our restaurant is based on the 1st floor. |
